My buddy Luke Parrott (lukep.typepad.com) was in KC this weekend to hang out. We had a great time just catching up, dreaming, thinking, and using one another as a sound board. One resolve we both came to was in order for significant change to take place within a country that is struggling with poverty it must become more than a fad, it must become a passion, a heart for these people.
If we just view it as something that is cool to do now it will soon fade just like bell-bottom jeans. The only problem is when our interest or the popularity around the topic fades, the reality of dying people still remains. So the question is, "How does this become more than a fad?" The answer, OWNERSHIP.
If more people would begin to own the opportunities to act and rely less on others to do it for them lasting change would occur. There is no reason why we can't create change, regardless of age, gender, or race. May we never view another company or organization that is trying to create change as competition, but rather as someone who is on the same team as we are to fight injustice. Trust me, there can not be enough organizations right now to help fight this issue called poverty. I hear so many people come up with ideas that excite me, and they'll bail out whenever they find that someone is already doing something similar. Who cares There is nothing new under the sun, and there can never be enough ideas to help fight for those who can't fight for themselves.
